Car
-
Remove all snow from the windows, mirrors and lights before starting off. Use a plastic scraper to remove the snow. Do not use hot water or salt.
-
To get out of a parking space in snow or ice, you should start up your car in second gear and get out little by little.
-
Make sure you have chains and know how to put them on if required.
-
Check that your windscreen wipers work correctly. Remember to leave them up when you park your vehicle outside.
-
Keep a greater safety distance with the vehicle in front, use high gears and avoiding braking. If you have to reduce speed, use your engine brake.
-
Drive over the tread of other vehicles.
-
If you are going on a long journey, take extra clothing, a torch and food and drink in case you have a breakdown. Fill up with petrol or charge your vehicle’s battery sufficiently.

Avoid using your motorbike in snow at all costs. If you can, travel in a four-wheel vehicle.
